Simple guide to Travertine
Travertine is often graded in at least 4 qualities. Best quality - sometimes known as Ivory. First quality sometimes known as Classic. Economy sometimes known as rustic and Commercial quality which should be called Commercial.
Ivory will have the least fill (holes) and impurities, The classic will a little more fill than Ivory. The economy will have quite a lot of fill and some of these may be in bigger patches. The commercial grade will have the most fill all over the surface.
Travertine is a natural material; it is normal for small holes to sometimes appear after installation, these can be filled with grout if desired.

Guide to Calibrated, Gauged and Ungauged slates
Calibrated - This slate has been heavily machined on the reverse to make it completely smooth. There is very little variation in thickness in this slate.
Gauged - This slate has been hand selected so the majority of the tiles will be within a narrower tolerance for thickness. Some tiles may also be lightly machined on the reverse to flatten the back and to remove any lumps and steps so the tile will lay flat on the sub floor without rocking.

Un gauged - This slate has just been hand split and both sides are natural

Please note all thickness's quoted are nominal. All the slates will still have a completely natural surface, this natural surface is still riven. Brazilian slate which is the smoothest natural slate may have up to 3 mm variation in the surface, although the majority will be much less. With some rustic slates the surface may vary by up to 5 mm or more depending on the particular colour of slate. This is natural characteristic and not a defect. These surface variations should be taken in to account when considering the nominal thickness' of the slates.

Please note the slates available in the Classic range are not gauged or calibrated Every tile is unique and as such may vary in colour and texture, we advise that prior to fixing all the tiles are laid out and then mixed to achieve the desired effect.

Please Note: We would ask all customers who are looking for a particular colour, texture, thickness or technical specification PLEASE DO NOT ORDER over the phone. Please contact the office and tell us your requirement. If you are looking for a consistent colour please tell us, as some stones can have wide variations and it is not always possible to show all variations in one small sample. It is recommended that you visit our warehouse to the examine the actual stock for suitability and to avoid disappointment and costs

All prices are quoted ex-warehouse and is subject to VAT at the prevailing rate
